Dave Neville has represented individuals and businesses in federal and state tax controversies, business, corporate, tax, bank and trademark matters, bankruptcy and estate planning, and related litigation since 1991.

His civil tax controversy experience is wide-ranging, involving income tax, sales tax, employment tax, excise taxes and county assessments, against government agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service, Franchise Tax Board, State Board of Equalization, Employment Development Department, California Labor Commissioner and county assessors.

The involvement ranges from the audit stage, to administrative appeals, to litigating cases in trial courts and appellate courts. Dave also has extensive experience representing taxpayers in bankruptcy.

Dave acts as outside general counsel to businesses, where he advises corporations and partnerships in transactional matters, including tax planning, formation of entities, sales and acquisitions, spin-offs, founder buyouts, and like-kind exchanges. He also advises non-profit organizations with formation and compliance matters.

Dave also has experience in trademark and copyright registrations, as well as representing parties in trademark disputes, including litigating trademark cases before the Trademark Trials and Appeals Board, and federal trial and federal appellate courts. He regularly advises clients on the adoption of trademarks and the licensing of trademarks and other intellectual property.

In addition Dave is experienced in general civil litigation, and has represented clients in cases involving breach of contract, wrongful termination, breach of fiduciary duties, conversion, fraud, and other issues. He has also represented clients in arbitration proceedings before FINRA and other arbitration organizations. Dave has advised litigants about the tax treatment of damage awards and settlements.

Dave is experienced in estate planning and regularly advises clients on estate planning issues related to taxation and wealth transfer and drafts estate planning documents.

When not working, Dave enjoys hiking, surfing and family activities.
